hey steve, i know we talked last night, but.....

"Crossing the Bar"

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound or foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell;
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

(Alfred, Lord Tennyson)

i am so sorry my friend - peace to you and your family. and may the Lord keep your mom in His embrace.

Don

Sorry to here that dude, I know when my mother passes on to the otherside there'll be no one to call the police on me anymore, except if my brother takes over.

Peace be with you and your household. I hope our distanced but sincere support is helpful to you as you grieve with your family. My dad is gone, and even when it was clear that it was time and not a surprise at all I was in shock nonetheless.
I'll be sending off a friend tomorrow, but that's another post. Be good to yourself.

Wharf, you and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers. It's times like this that we realize we are here all too briefly. That we should have done more, said more, loved more. I hope you have a lifetime of fond memories to cherish with your Mom. Maybe it's time now, maybe it will be later, but reflect back on her life and smile. When my brother passed I sat under a full moon and listened to Brokedown Palace a number of times and remembered. I hope you too find that solace and come to terms with what has happened, this natural progression of life. May the four winds...

Fare you well my honey
Fare you well, my only true one

All the birds that were singing are flown
except you alone

Going to leave this brokedown palace
On my hands and my knees, I will roll, roll, roll
Make myself a bed, by the waterside
In my time, in my time, I will roll, roll, roll

In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will lay my head
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul

River going to take me, sing me sweet and sleepy
Sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home
Its a far gone lullaby, sung many years ago

Mama, mama many worlds Ive come since I fisrt left home

Goin home, Goin home
By the riverside I will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul

Gonna plant a weeping willow
On the banks green edge it will grow, grow, grow
Sing a lullaby beside the water
Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll

FARE YOU WELL, FARE YOU WELL
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul

-you are in my thoughts and prayers wharf-
peace to you

Wharf, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother.

No words really can sum up or quantify the loss of a parent. I lost my Mother when she was 52, but just because I have been through this doesn't mean I have one clue about the emotions you have or will have.

The only thing I can impart to you from my experience is that we are lucky. So many people out there have never known their parents. I've always felt blessed that I not only knew my Mother, but loved her and carry a part of her with me every day. They give us life and love, and our gift to them is that we carry on and live our lives. In this life. we carry them with us. We will always hear their voices, remember their love and this tells us how truly lucky we are to have those memories inside of our head and inside of our hearts.

Now it's clear to me what Some Dark Hollow was telling us about over at Deadhook.

My deepest sympathies go out to you and all who held Mom dear, Wharf Rat.

My mother passed away quite suddenly in March of '05, and then Dad the following October, 67 and 78 years old respectively. 2005 was a very tough time in the BryanE household. '06 was no picnic, either, but that's beside the point.

The pain of losing one's parents is like no other. When your mother dies, it is possibly even more painful than when your father slips away, but either way, I wish I could have both of them back. Moms and Dads leave behind a void that can never be filled, and there is little that anyone can do to offer any kind of total comfort from the shock.

Believe me when I tell you, though, that there will come a time when you can carry on, much as you did when she was still here. You will smile, you will sing and dance, you will laugh and joke, just as she would want you to do. It will happen, my friend. Until then, cloak yourself in the priceless memory of her love, and be grateful to have had her in your life.

All the best to you.
